We had been talking to Owen about getting rid of his "pappy" (pacifier) for quite some time now. He was VERY attached to it. His pappy and nigh-nigh (blanket) went everywhere with us. It was a huge security for him to have it at his side at all times. If he hurt himself, he didn't come to mommy first - he'd find his pappy and nigh-nigh, and all would be right with the world. To say that he loved it would be an understatement.
Almost exactly two years ago - we took away Brett's "patchie." It was no easy task, and the thought of doing it again made me cringe. Ryan had been telling me for awhile that it was time to get rid of it, but I always had an excuse as to why I wasn't going to do it just yet. I knew it had to be done, I just didn't want to endure what we went through when we took away Brett's patchie. Owen had always said that if Santa brought him a flashlight for Christmas, he would throw his pappy in the trash. (He will probably keep his nigh-nigh forever, he loves that thing :))Because we were going to the waterpark right after Christmas, I decided I would just get a flashlight, and give it to him when we came back. I didn't want to deal with the 4 hour drive each way, and then the sleeping at night. See what I mean - excuses, excuses... Christams Eve day we lost the pappy. The one and only pappy that he liked. Nap time came around and we couldn't find that thing anywhere! I told him that he was going to have to go to bed without it, and he said, "It's O.K., I don't need my pappy anymore - Santa's going to bring me a flashlight tonight at the party!" (Santa comes to the family party) He went down for his nap PERFECTLY! Never even asked for it! When he woke up he said, "O.K. - let's get ready for the party - Santa's going to bring me a flashlight!" Right then, I realized, I have no flashlight for Santa to give him! You can bet that I ran out to Walgreen's to get the flashlight. Unfortunately, earlier that week we had an ice storm that left many people without power. I went to three stores, and finally found something that somewhat resembled a flashlight - not quite, but he sure was happy with it, and it worked...
So Santa brought Owen a flash light, and we've barely heard another word about "pappy." Naps and Bedtimes have been a breeze - the trip to Wisconsin Dells was a breeze...the whole thing was just SOOOOOO easy!!! And Thank Goodness, because I don't think I could handle another little boy who was so sad to give up his favorite thing - like Brett was...
What a big boy he is!!! I know that is so hard...With our first little girl we had to go to the dentist and I 'dropped' it in the dentist parking lot (of course I was stupid enough to REALLY drop it..ha) I picked it up as soon as I dropped it, Whitney just didn't see me...course for the next 4 days we drove by the dentist office to see if we could 'find' it..but that was it, she never ask for it again....my second one Chloe she really never took to it other than a few months when she was little so that one was a breeze...it was her 'blankie'...she would stand at the washing machine and cry until it was done with it's cycle..ha finally we got thru that and I have put it up for her to have one day...:) Good job!!!
I have been married to Ryan since April, 2001. We have three almost perfect (yeah right!) kids: Chloe, 7 Brett,5 and Owen, 3. They are the light of my life. It's a lot of fun and totally CRAZY at times, but I wouldn't change it for the world.

That's great! Hopefully you'll find his pappy before he does :)
